They say that if Alzheimer’s Disease is on your mother’s side of the family, then you may have an increased chance of inheriting it. When my maternal grandfather was diagnosed with it in 2011…it was on my mind all the time. I decided to focus that energy on the design of my first photo illustration
for an assignment at Ball State. My grandfather passed away that year, and I tried not to only think of myself developing Alzheimer’s. Instead, I overlayed a current photo with a newborn picture of myself with my grandfather (doesn’t he look like a proud grandpa?) to celebrate him.
We all need to be aware of the possibilities. I tried taking a different perspective that was not so bleak. Art heals me at times like this…and no matter what – we can’t stop time or genetic predispositions.
It doesn’t stop the flow of creativity. I’ve just learned to channel some of life’s matters through art.
